The Shop/Diesel Technician provides preventive maintenance and performs general repairs.

This position will work out of Dixon, IL. at a Truck Country customer’s facility.

Essential Functions (not in order of priority):

  • Diagnose mechanical problems using charts, technical manuals and acquired experience.
  • Perform necessary repairs and adjustments using tools and other necessary equipment in the following areas as covered under warranty: air conditioning/heating, cab, instruments, brakes frame, steering, suspension, tires, wheels, drive train, electrical systems, engine system and other components which may need repair.
  • Complete repair orders (including comment section for complaint, cause & correction), fuel tickets, timecards, expense reports, and other documentation as required.
  • Purchase parts and supplies.
  • Drive vehicles within company property and on public roads as required.
  • Observe safety rules and regulations, shop rules, company policies, PPE requirements and other instructions from management.
  • Work as scheduled, plus overtime as needed, as customer needs demand. Timecards should be consistent with the repair orders, tickets, travel time, etc.
  • Supply your own tools.
  • Operate a forklift (if applicable) with proper training and certification. Recertification every 3 yrs.
  • Be actively taking self-paced tests that pertain to this position and our business.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment.
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
  • Maintain regular on-site attendance.

Work Environment:

  • Frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, wet or humid conditions (non-weather) and outdoor weather conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Frequent use of keyboard, mouse or laptop.
  • Climbing in and out of vehicles.
  • Occasional stooping and bending.
  • Ability to lift/push/pull up to 25lbs regularly and up to 75lbs occasionally.
  • Vision: Close vision, Distant vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Education, Skills & Knowledge Required:

  • Possess a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with good standing MVR.
  • Graduation from an accredited diesel mechanic trade school OR have 5 years of relevant work experience.
  • Basic computer knowledge needed to research repair issues online, complete computer based training and complete required repair order data entry.
