The Service Manager will be responsible for the complete operation of the Service Department. The Service Manager will operate within the goals set by the General Manager in the business plan each year. He/she must work with the General Manager to strive to grow the department and make whatever decisions necessary to maintain a profitable Service Department.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (not in order of priority):
- Supervise all Shop Foreman, Service Advisors, Warranty Manager, and Technicians in the Service Department.
- Schedule subordinate personnel including Technicians into appropriate training programs with input from Shop Foreman.
- Visit customer locations when needed and as directed by the General Manager.
- Responsible for keeping all Technicians efficiency 96% or better and comeback free.
- Interact with our customers as dictated by day to day business. This includes calling customer to solicit work if schedule slows and dealing with customer complaints if they arise.
- Solicit new customers and expand customer base.
- Work with Recruiting Dept. on recruiting qualified technicians on an ongoing basis.
- Perform performance evaluations for subordinate personnel on a timely basis.
- Review foreman and technician training progress and transcripts (online) on a monthly basis.
- Oversee employee retention efforts within the department.
- Monitor the growth and career development of subordinate staff and technicians on an ongoing basis.
- Must maintain a professional working relationship with all other managers in our dealership.
- Must participate in training as offered by the manufactures and directed by the General Manager.
- Follow the principles and practices as stated in the Customer Bill of Rights.
- Responsible for directing Shop Foremen to keep the shop as well as shop floors clean and free of clutter.
- Responsible for getting appropriate shop tools and equipment repaired as needed when brought to his/her attention.
- Regular onsite attendance is required.
- All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Work Environment:
- Indoor and outdoor environment.
- Will be exposed to noise, dust, exhaust fumes, paint and other hazardous and nonhazardous materials.
Physical Requirements:
- Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on multiple quotes simultaneously.
- Ability to travel to different locations.
- Ability to communicate with a wide variety of individuals and handle difficult situations as they arise.
Education, Skills & Knowledge Required
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- 6 months to 1 year of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Thorough knowledge of principles and practices involved with successful heavy-duty truck service management.
- At least four years of supervisory level experience in a dealership or fleet setting.
- Must have demonstrated management and leadership skills, be well organized, have strong communication skills, and be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers, vendors, and employees.
- Must have the ability and desire to work in a team-oriented environment.
