The Outside Parts Sales Representative is responsible for selling and promoting the Parts Department and growing their assigned accounts and territories.
Commission-based pay
Essential Duties and Responsibilities (not in order of priority):
- Call on trucking and leasing companies and independent garages and truck and trailer repair shops.
- Responsible for maintaining existing parts business and growing new business with current customer base.
- Continue to prospect and cold call new customers with the goal to develop these prospects into a new and active customer.
- Maintain a close relationship with his/her customers and to competition so he/she may be able to maximize sales with the highest possible gross profit margin.
- To be responsive to customer needs and concerns by troubleshooting maintenance problems, suggesting recommended stock and informing customers of new products on the market.
- Help customers with warranty problems when applicable per the policies and procedures of the Company.
- Assist with customer parts returns.
- Work the parts counter when asked under emergency circumstances.
- Entertain clients to help continue building a stronger relationship between customer and other sales representatives through but not limited to lunches, sporting and racing events, golf outings, etc.
- Be skilled in the following areas:
- Ability to promote Professionalism and Pride within the work force
- Flexibility to adjust to changing priorities on short notice
- Ability to carry out Company policies and understand proper protocol
- Ability to maintain clear and accurate records
- Observe safety rules and regulations, company policies, and other instructions from management.
- Maintain regular attendance as scheduled
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
Work Environment:
- Occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outdoor weather conditions and vibration.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical & Mental Requirements:
- Ability to work under conditions of periodic mental stress
- Pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and background/reference check.
- Ability to concentrate on several issues at the same time
- Must be able to use problem-solving skills, interpret data, organize and plan and communicate by
- speaking and writing
- Must be able to make decisions based on logic and company protocol and procedures
Education, Skills and Knowledge required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in heavy-duty parts or service at dealerships
- Ability to work independently and schedule jobs to meet Company’s needs.
- Working knowledge of trucks, diesel engines, air brakes, HD transmissions, axle and drivelines and related
- systems and accessories.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing as required to perform the essential functions
- of the position.
- Ability to handle Company issues and concerns with tact and diplomacy in daily operations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with everyone.
- Superior selling skills based on probing to uncover customer needs, introducing benefits to meet and support
- those needs and closing the sale.
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Skilled at working with computer programs, including Microsoft Office Suite.
